Greater Shantallow Community Arts Presents

 Fleadh Mhór Dhoire 2021

Greater Shantallow Community Arts is passionate about the arts and our artistic vision stems from 20 years of experience bringing arts into the heart of disadvantaged communities whilst promoting our city and regions world class artists and performers through the delivery of top-class civic festivals, events and showcases.

“Fleadh Mhór Dhoire 2021” will showcase to the world our indigenous Irish Traditional Arts creating a platform for illuminating the sheer quality of musicianship, singing, literature and Irish Culture that our city and region possesses.

“Fleadh Mhór Dhoire” will use the arts as a vehicle for reaching out to new communities, making new friends and empowering people to believe in their own creative potential whilst contributing to our city’s Cultural Ecosystem.

Our Fleadh will utilise the transformative power of the arts to make strategic social interventions, helping to alleviate the social exclusion, isolation and lack of opportunity for engagement felt by so many as globally we live with the restrictions and impacts of the COVID pandemic.

For generations past and present it has been our music and stories that have kept our spirits alive!

The Culture of our Irish people is alive and thriving here in the Maiden City and on behalf of everyone involved with Fleadh Mhor Dhoire 2021.
It gives me great please to bid you all a heartfelt Céad Míle Fáilte as we ask you all to join us for this wonderful celebration of our city and counties rich heritage of Traditional Irish Arts.

Greater Shantallow Community Arts Proud to be Supporting Traditional Irish Arts

CCÉ Baile na gCailleach are a branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann (CCÉ) in Derry City and are therefore part of a national and international network of musicians, singers, dancers and linguists who strive to promote and preserve the traditional Irish arts. Our name, Baile na gCailleach, is Irish for Ballynagalliagh – the ancient hinterland which covers from Galliagh to beyond Ballyarnett in Derry city, although our members come from this area and further afield. It is also fitting that our base is Studio 2, a state-of-the-art arts venue which is in the heart of the Ballynagalliagh area. We are grateful for the wonderful facilities and support we receive here. We welcome children and adults of all backgrounds, ages and abilities to join us in our branch which promotes a nurturing and family-friendly environment for all those interested in Irish music, song, dance and language. We are in our fourth year of operation and have achieved some amazing things already such as hosting sessions, concerts, workshops, Fleadh days and ceilís. We have been invited to play at various gigs throughout the city and were recorded for the RTÉ Radio 1 show Ceilí House in December 2017 and March 2019- a huge honour! We have already put members through their Irish exam for their cúpla focal (few words) badge and hosted Fleadh Dhoire 2019 and hope to do bigger and better classes and events each year.

Our vision it that CCÉ Baile na gCailleach will create cultural opportunity, growth and impact among our local community. We will develop the confidence of the participants in their ability to actively engage by challenging them to reach their creative and participative potential through learning, sharing and achieving in an Irish arts environment.
